  • The Earls of Dundonald knew they were onto a loss to try to keep the Gwrych Castle in anything like a decent condition. I visited it in the 1950’s when it was already run down. To spend huge amounts of rate payer’s money on this shell of a once stately home would be a folly. No private investor with any sense has developed the site. If I recall a university research report concluded that Gwrych Castle should be used by the Abergele Golf Club for its club house as this was perhaps the only viable solution to the building. This never got off the ground and nothing else will.

  • THE MAIN FOCUS OF ABERGELE IS IT'S CASTLE. JUST WHY HAS CONWY COUNCIL NOT THROWN IT'S WEIGHT BEHIND HELPING THIS BEAUTIFUL LANDMARK. We arrange private tours all over North Wales and bring a great deal of revenue to the area. Our groups have attended en mass the Gwrych Castle Open Days this year, every one of them and we have been overwhelmed by the effort and the work that is going on there by the Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust. Who are now jointly in partnership at last and able to do something with this wonderful estate to help it after years of ownership issues. The latest owners have made the Trust their partners and they are leasing the Estate to the Trust at last. We will be there encouring tourists to Abergele and bringing a lot of revenue to Abergele if the powers that be at Conwy Council will at last do something to support this magestic landmark and not keep dismissing it. Thousands of people are supporting the Trust and it is worldwide. We get visitors from overseas all the time asking to attend Gwrych Castle and now we can offer them something thanks to the Trust doing their events. We will be there again on the 23rd of August offering our support as tourists and booking coaches of tourists to attend all their events. Why is it that Conwy Council have not helped more and you now have your chance to do the right thing and to do all possible to back the Gwrych Castle Trust who are an organised and forward thinking Charity to further their aim and bring a landmark back to life in Abergele. Cannot praise their efforts enough and it's remarkable to see such hard work going on with Staff, Volunteers and Trustees. Who give their time freely to help Abergele. Back them please and let's get this show on the road. The Trust have the power to make a difference and they need you Conwy Council. So do we. My childhood holidays were spent in Abergele. Nothing there now and we want those good times back and relive our memories at Gwrych with our Grandchildren! Make it happen! Thank you.

  • It's such a beautiful fairy tale place - this needs restoring and preserving
Please do help to preserve this beautiful place in any way you can.
Am sure that if the right project was chosen for it its in such an easy and accessible place that the money spent could easily be made with the right sort of project.

  • My father lived here for a while in the 50's.Please provide funding for the Gwrych Castle Visitor Centre and Conservatory project. The recent open days demonstrate how this bring tourists into Abergele, and that in turn would benefit many other businesses in the town and so secure a long term impact from this funding.

  • Gwrych Castle is THE emblem of Abergele to anyone passing on the main road as well as being of huge historic interest that would have a worldwide reach. My personal connection is that my grandparents were residents of Abergele and employed at the castle in the 1920s/30s. If Gwrych was open to visitors, possibly with a visitor centre, I'm sure I would be one of many who would travel from afar to visit and spend money in the local economy, hotels etc. Gwrych would join the chain of great Welsh castles and be a superb location for a wide range of events that would benefit the local community and attract national and international tourists to the area. You have one of the best looking castles in the world waiting to be brought to life.

  • Gwrych Castle is amazing. Please please bring it back. It could really help the local economy as tourists would flock to see it. The open days have shown just how popular it is. There are some very lovely people trying their best to restore it, but they need help. Please help. Thank you. Show us you care x

  • Gwrych is such a landmark of Abergele - so visible from the main road and such a lovely place to visit. There is clearly the demand for it by the number of people that have been attending the open days. The development of the castle will attract much tourism to the area and help boost the local economy. It is also important that this part of our heritage and culture survive for future generations to see.

  • Grwych Castle is a lovely place to visit - I would like to see if full restored for people to enjoy in the future.

  • GWRYCH CASTLE

The area can only benefit from the promotion of this lovely castle. Gwrych is an iconic landmark clearly visible from the A55, and will be an attractive addition to the tourist portfolio.

  • Gwrych Castle is the first thing we look for when arriving in the area on the A55 from Staffordshire , its sad the neglect it has received until recent times .
It would be a major tourism boost for the area to support the castle project
Its part of the local heritage of the Abegele area that needs to promoted and supported by the Borough Council

  • Please fund Gwrych Castle. Abergele has a castle that could offer a number of opportunities to the public. The open days have been so inviting to the public. Education, tourism etc so much to offer Abergele in the future.

  • Gwrych Castle stands proud overlooking the coastline, seen by many who travel along the A55.

Abergele is so, so privileged to have this historical building, to lose this special identity will be a great, great tragedy.

So far, the Trust have been able to open Gwrych Castle to the public by holding open days and the public supported the open days, and they came be it alone, brought their families of all ages, young couples, they brought their dogs etc, what a wonderful feeling was had, the public coming together in beautiful historical surroundings.

One could sense that the Trust and volunteers had been working so hard with a passion, trying to raise monies to continue works on the proposed Visitor Centre, only to offer in the future no end of opportunities for Abergele ie, education to our schools, tourism etc.

Please allocate some funding and Abergele be known by many as having "that castle in Abergele town we must visit again".

  • As a visitor to Wales for many years I am amazed that this iconic landmark has been left to fall into ruins. This is a fantastic opportunity to restore the castle, open it to the public and share its history. As a regular visitor to Abergele I will be eagerly watching for an opportunity to visit this beautiful castle.

  • I love seeing grywch castle every day. This landmark and historical feature should be given every opportunity possible to be preserved.such a valuable thing to visit and see. Im lucky enough to have a view from my home and would be devastated if it wasnt there anymore. The trust needs to be supported in their fabulous restoration project.

  • This is wonderful opportunity to help restore Gwrych Castle. The volunteers have done such a good job so far but money is needed to continue their fine work.
Please consider this request to continue this project which is such a landmark for Abergele and if more work is possible this would increase jobs and promote the town.

  • There is a no greater cause than supporting the Grwych Trust to bring back thousands of visitors to Abergele.

  • This is an excellent idea - it will promote the history and importance of Gwrych Castle both within the context of the local area as well as within Wales and Welsh culture. Hopefully this will be another step towards reviving this historic building.

  • Gwrych Castle is an eye con of the north wales coast. It is a tremendous building that deserves to be saved and used by the public. Available funding should be used to restore this building, which would bring visitors to the area and see the focal point of the town brought back to life.

  • Gwrych Castle the devolopment of a museum and education center, because Abergele and district is full of history and needs to be reserved for future generations, this is very important and Gwrych Castle also needs to be restored because it will bring a lot of business back into Abergele and jobs.

  • Please give serious thought to providing financial help for the development of Gwrych Castle as a tourist attraction. It's agreat site and the Trust has been working hard for a long time trying to have the place restored and brought back to life.

    By R V Roberts –
  • Please fund Gwrych - the preservation trust people have worked so hard with such passion to bring this beautiful place back to life that they deserve all the financial support that is available. It is such a noticeable site from the a55 that any passing tourist would not be able to resist. Any project that helps to educate children and give them a sense of their heritage has got to be positive for the local community and in the future - Wales itself.

  • Gwyrch castle deserves financial support, the project is amazing and the work needs as much support as possible to become an excellent tourist attraction which will benefit the local community.

    By Brian Bell –
  • Gwrych would really benefit from funding to push forward with the visitor centre project, to help revitalise it as a community project and breathe life into Gwrych futher. It will benefit the community and visitors from afar, will be a functional hub for children to learn the history and adults alike.

  • Gwrych castle should be considered for funding in order for it to continue restoring some of the beautiful buildings of the castle and in order for the public to learn about this wonderful castles history and witness its beauty and splendor themselves. Would encourage tourism in abergele and would be a fantastic place for school trips.

  • What a great idea to house a local history museum at Gwrych Castle, it would bring more people into the area just to visit such an iconic building.

    By S.Carter –
  • The Gwrych Trust should be allocated some of the money for the visitor Centre and gardens project. They should also be represented on the panel of the placemakers scheme. It will be a massive boost to the area and could hold a local history museum for Abergele and district. Gwrych Castle is a high profile building known both nationally and internationally, so it is a great asset to Abergele and the area.

    By Spencer Beale –
  • Funding should be provided for the Gwrych Trust to carry out the public access elements of the restoration project at the castle. The first phase would involve the creation of a visitor centre and reinstatement of the formal garden and conservatory. It would provide a new visitor destination for Abergele and would also provide new jobs, as well as ensuring public access to a local landmark.

    By Mark Baker –
  • Funding is needed for Gwrych Castle Preservation Trust to carry on attracting visitors to the castle and for them to keeping on restoring past of the castle and grounds and open a visitors center and museum. The recent open days so just how many visitors could be attracted to the area if the castle was open more often.

  • We need funding for the up grade of the tower and the rest of grwych castle people flock to see this heritage and it's a great place to attract visitors nation wide

  • Conwy Council Borough Council need to do all they can to give the Gwrych Castle Trust projects support. • Gwrych Castle will be a fantastic site for heritage and culture being so close to the A55. I n winter it could be a bad weather haven for local families with kids if there was a child-friendly section,in summer it will be a perfect day out for tourists and locals

  • Please fund the Gwrych Castle Melon House project leased by the Gwrych Trust to support plans for a Visitors Centre/museum/historical point for Abergele. This would have the potential to increase tourism, provide further employment and increase people’s historical knowledge of the area. Thank you for taking time to read this and action on it.

  • Can you please invest in supporting the plans for a Visitors Centre/museum/historical point for Abergele. Gwrych Castle Melon House project leased by the Gwrych Trust has huge potential and requires you back up. Visitors are attending Gwrych Castle in their thousands each year and it is an opportunity for you to support the Trust to develop this landmark (the Melon House region) to enable people to have a place to aim for in Abergele. To camp at Manorafon and bringing money to Abergele High Street and town. Please don't miss this opportunity whilst the Trust has workers, developers, staff to make a difference to Abergele and support the Gwrych Trust to make a success and create jobs and develop part of the site already worked upon (restored tower) to enable us to progress and benefit everyone. Gwrych Castle has worldwide followers many of whom we show around the restored Estate region and discuss the history of the main building. If we cannot restore the main building we can restore the west side of the estate and we are working on this and gardens through fundraising. Please help us to do something for the town. Diolch.

  • Abergele should have a museum or heritage centre, a starting point for tours around the town, give out maps which create a trail around the places of historic importance and interest.
